RedKey Realty Leaders agents Steve and Valerie Engel have been a husband-and-wife team since 2007. Both grew up in St. Louis—Steve in University City, Valerie in the Ladue/Olivette area. Steve obtained his first real estate license in Florida, but worked in residential development until he returned to St. Louis in 1995. The couple now lives in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Clayton with their two English bulldogs, Buster and Skipper. “They make a much better-looking couple than we do,” Steve quips.

House of India, where I always order the chicken tikka masala.

Where do you grab a good cup of coffee?
Winslow’s Home serves a good one.

What is your favorite store?
I used to like going to Vintage Vinyl, but now I’d probably say United Provisions, the new grocery store where I buy lots of nice wine and cheese.

Which park/outdoor space do you most enjoy?
Ruth Park Golf Course on Groby Road. I was a terror there growing up—we rode our dirt bikes on it after dark, which didn’t go down too well!

What is your favorite thing about University City?
The different neighborhoods and the beautiful architecture. My favorite neighborhood is University Hills.

What sets University City apart from other areas in St. Louis?
Its central location and great accessibility to parks and universities. You can live there for 60 cents on the dollar compared to Clayton.
