The Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis helps females in the St. Louis region succeed. Established by a group of visionary women in 2007, it examines local and national issues that impact women and girls and funds community projects that support the educational, socioeconomic and health needs of women facing challenges. The foundation is affiliated with the national Women’s Funding Network, a group of funding organizations that are changing communities through thoughtful, charitable investment.

Its annual fundraiser, ‘Making a Difference: Strength through Equality,’ is Oct. 1 at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac. Event co-chairs are Jane Langa and Deb Zimmerman. The evening’s program features Lilly Ledbetter, co-author of Grit and Grace: My Fight for Equal Pay and Fairness at Goodyear and Beyond. What to wear to this event is business attire, which is appropriate to the organization’s mission and stated on the invitation. Good choices are work-appropriate dresses, suits, pant suits, or a nice blouse paired with a skirt or pant. Consider changing your day handbag to a smaller one. Make sure you bring your business cards, as I’m sure there will be networking opportunities. For more information about the event and the organization, go to wfstl.org.

[tricks of the trade]
Q| Ruffles are everywhere! How do I safely wear them in a complimentary way?
A| Tops are a great way to wear the ruffle trend. If you are short or want to draw attention away from the hips, wear ruffles on a shoulder or at the neckline. If busty, wear a soft stream of vertical ruffles (not bunchy). Avoid creating volume around the areas you want to minimize.
