tv » can’t cope, won’t cope. Netflix.
Oh, the first few episodes tricked me! I thought this was going to be a fun little comedy about two Irish girls in Dublin who manage to party all night and work all day. But somewhere around episode three, when their hangovers caught up with them, so did the tone of the series. I understand it’s hard being a grown-up, but I’m not sure I need to be hit over the head repeatedly with the message that if you drink all night, your days will end up pretty ugly. Depressing.

book » the wife by Alafair Burke.
This book already has been optioned for a movie, and I understand why. The lies we tell ourselves are worse than the secrets we keep from others. You will be nearly done with the book before you have a ‘wait a minute’ moment and start putting the pieces together. If you liked Gone Girl, you’ll like this one, too.

music » crazy ex-girlfriend Soundtrack.
If you haven’t been watching the award-winning Crazy Ex-Girlfriend series on The CW (you can stream all three seasons on Netflix), you should at least be listening to it. The music is the heart of the show, as most of the cast has been plucked from the Broadway stage. The songs drive the action and describe the characters’ innermost feelings. They are quirky and hilarious and will get stuck in your head for weeks.
