Message from the Head of School:
As a parent, you recognize your child’s unique gifts. At Community, we are committed to letting those gifts flourish, whatever they may be. Here, you’ll find an inspiring atmosphere where children are challenged to grow on an academic, creative, and personal level. Coached by our veteran faculty, students develop the skills to reach their highest potential with confidence.
The children here are truly engaged in learning. Community is not a place where children sit passively and listen to their teachers. They are hands-on, all-in, enthusiastic learners who are excited to dig deeply into subject matter and explore ideas. Our 16-acre campus has woods, trails, fields, and a pond, making it the perfect place for children to safely explore the outside world while reinforcing concepts learned in the classroom.
We believe that a child’s education should be both broad and deep, with a comprehensive exploration of science, math, literature, writing, social studies, foreign language, the visual and performing arts, and technology. Our focus on character development and critical thinking helps Community’s alumni earn leadership positions in secondary schools, in college, and in life.
I hope each of you will take some time this year to visit Community School. This is a truly exceptional place for children and their families to embrace exploration and learning throughout preschool, kindergarten and elementary school.
Academic Excellence:
Community School sets the standard for academic excellence among St. Louis-area elementary schools. We balance intellectual challenge and nurturing support, allowing each child’s strengths to shine.
Learning Tailored to the Individual Child: Our small, child-focused classrooms reach children where they are. With a 7:1 student-teacher ratio, each student gets the personalized help and encouragement he or she needs to thrive.
An Education Based on Exploration: Early exploration is key to developing a thorough understanding of complex subjects. Our approach to learning is hands on. Students examine ideas and topics up close, pushing beyond rote memorization.
Test Scores to Prove It: Test scores validate our hands-on educational philosophy. Year after year, Community students score among the highest in the nation on standardized tests—averaging 40-50% above national norms, 8-9% above gifted suburban public students, and 5-6% above other independent schools.
Parent’s Perspective:
“The moment my husband and I walked into Community School for the first time, I felt an immediate sense of warmth and belonging. Community School provides a family-like atmosphere that mirrors my own parenting values of integrating mind, body and spirit. Our daughters are building self-confidence while learning not only academic material, but also lifelong social and emotional skills.” ~ The Deutsch Family
