Heard in the Halls: 7.11.18

kirkwood high school
Students remembered the unwavering dedication of a beloved coach by dedicating a pole-vaulting area in his honor during an annual track meet. The John Weiss Pole Vault Pavilion at E.L. Lyons Memorial Stadium recognizes the coach’s 28 years of service. Weiss passed away in 2017.


rossman school

Each year, the school recognizes standout sixth-graders. For the 2017-18 school year, graduates Madison Sineff, Graham Engler and Angelina Shen (pictured) were honored. Sineff was awarded the Mary B. Rossman Award for Citizenship; Engler received the Pauline Marshall Award for Scholarship for holding the highest grade point average; and Shen received the Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Specialty Subject.


john burroughs school

The Super Mileage Club competed against 100 high school and university teams during the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas competition. The team built an energy-efficient vehicle, which they dubbed the Blue Bomber, and placed third among high school students and 13th overall in the international event in California.


keysor elementary school

The U.S. Department of Education designated the elementary school as a Green Ribbon School for its environmental and wellness efforts. It was among 46 schools in the nation to receive the award.
