New Symptoms for COVID

Several weeks into the coronavirus pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has added some new potential symptoms to the list. The main ones originally described were dry cough, fever and shortness of breath, but recently, health care providers began noticing other signs among infected patients. Chills, shaking, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and loss of smell or taste now are associated with the virus as well.

Mercy Hospital South director of critical care Dr. Laura Adam has said that the expanded list may make it easier for providers to identify who needs to be tested for the virus. Symptoms can show up two to 14 days after a person has been exposed to it, and they can appear in different combinations and range from mild to severe.

If you notice signs of the illness, contact your health care provider right away. For more information on the coronavirus pandemic, visit cdc.gov.
