Martha Kessel, Executive Director
The walls of Martha Kessel’s office are lined with colorful artwork created by Residents, and given as gifts to a woman who brought more than excellent management skills to The Gatesworth over 20 years ago. Martha has a knack for connecting with people, and since The Gatesworth opened in 1988, she has not only built many close relationships with Residents, she has fostered an atmosphere among her 230+ employees in which Resident’s needs always come first. Before coming to The Gatesworth, Martha served as Director of Parish Cultivation for St. John’s United Methodist in the Central West End and Webster Hills United Methodist Church, and as a high school teacher in her home state of Kentucky. Martha received a Women of Worth Award from the Older Women’s League in 2004.

Since opening in 1988, The Gatesworth, a pioneer in providing area seniors with a wide variety of quality services in a warm residential environment, has won numerous local and national awards, including being named one of the “Nation’s Top 10 Retirement Communities” by Forbes Magazine.
With McKnight Place Assisted Living and McKnight Place Extended Care on The Gatesworth campus and Parc Provence in nearby Creve Coeur, we are able to provide our Residents a comprehensive continuum of care services. In addition, our local owners have offices on-site and are always available to meet with Residents and/or their families

Our commitment to quality began over two decades ago with the visionary leadership of our owners, and is carried out by over 230 staff members every day. By listening to Resident suggestions we constantly update our multitude of services and programs, ever mindful of our goal to meet and exceed expectations.
We added dog walking to our concierge services when one Resident was afraid to walk her dog because it was icy outside. We added a second limousine because the demand was there. We posted a flag outside the gatehouse because a Resident asked why a flag was not on display.
It is this kind of attention to detail and open communication with our Residents that helps make our community a home and truly sets us apart from every other senior living community.
