Design of the Month: July

House location & type »
A small, cottage-style home in South County

Goals of the homeowner »
The homeowner wanted the kitchen to reflect her personality as a wine collector and a canner, and she wanted to be able to cook with her husband in the space. She also wanted to highlight her colorful dishes in glass-fronted cabinets.

Favorite part of the project »
The back focal wall, because it really makes the space appear larger. It also showcases the homeowner’s dishes and wine bottles and houses a table that can be pulled out for more guests when required.

Favorite item »
The lighting, because it reflects the homeowner’s interest in canning—it’s made of glass jars that you would use for canning pickles. I also love the fan, because its blades turn downward, making it more compact but just as effective as a regular fan.
