When it comes to braids, the possibilities are endless. From side braids to braided buns, there is no wrong way to rock one. Michael Kors debuted his latest incarnation of a braided ’do during New York Fashion Week last month, and it was nothing if not chic. The perfect combination of fun, flirty and effortlessly stylish, getting the same look at home takes little more than a few quick and calculated steps. Here’s how:
Step 1
Start with clean or next-day dry hair. Part hair in the middle, and using a fine-toothed comb, tease your crown to create volume. Remember, do not over-tease the hair. You want to look like a Michael Kors model, not Miss America.
Step 2
Keep your teased tresses in place with your favorite volumizing spray. Whether you have thick or thin hair, you definitely will need a spray that adds texture and maintains volume.
Step 3
Starting at the nape of the neck, create a semi-tight low braid. Use your fingers to loosen the braid and pull out random pieces along the braid and near your face.
Step 4
If you weren’t blessed with natural curls, use a wide-barrel curling iron and curl the loose pieces around your face. Finish off your full-bodied look by using your fingers to brush through your hair. Set with a lightweight hair spray, and rock your meticulously messy braid!
