Michael and Vicki Liesmann spent nearly 30 years in the Sunset HillsĀ area before Michael accepted positions in London and New Jersey for his job as a partner withĀ Pricewaterhouse Coopers. When he wasĀ approaching retirement, the couple knew itĀ was time to head back home. They found aĀ private house on 1 acre in Town & CountryĀ that met their needs perfectly.
āWe wanted to
live in this area to be closeĀ to all our friends; we had a lot of connectionsĀ here,ā Michael Liesmann says. As membersĀ of Bellerive Country Club, the couple foundĀ the location especially convenient. TheyĀ moved into the one-and-a-half-story house inĀ 2009, two years after it had been built on a teardown lot, and say the quiet, single-streetĀ neighborhood provides both privacy andĀ convenience to all the area
hasĀ to offer.
Liesmann also applauds theĀ easy access to the pedestrianĀ walkway along Clayton RoadĀ that runs the length of the city,Ā built after they moved in. āItāsĀ very popular among residents,āĀ he says. Vicki says they oftenĀ walk the trail, and itās a greatĀ way to get to Straubās for a cupĀ of coffee. āOur daughter andĀ son-in-law, who live in DesĀ Peres, even use it,ā she says.Ā āThey just park at our house.ā
One of the main attracti
onsĀ of the six-bedroom house is itsĀ open floor plan. āIn our previousĀ homes, my wife never likedĀ being āclosed offā from everyone else if she was in theĀ kitchen,ā LiesmannĀ says. āThis house is totally open,Ā creating a sense of togetherness.āĀ The large kitchen with doubleĀ islands, two sinks and top-of-the-lineĀ appliances opens to the hearthĀ room, the coupleās favorite place toĀ relax. āWe love its barrel ceiling andĀ stone fireplace,ā he says. Vicki adds that itās a popular space for everyoneĀ who visits. āWhenever we entertain,Ā no matter how many peopleĀ are here, they always stay in theĀ hearth/kitchen area,ā she says. āWeĀ have all this room to spread out, butĀ everyone congregates in the same place.ā
At more than 7,000 square feet, there is ample space for entertaining, and the Liesmanns tookĀ advantage of the first-floor great room and basement for that purpose. āWe hosted a lot of largeĀ family gatherings, especially around the holidays,ā Liesmann says. During his 60th birthday party,Ā the great room made a perfect venue for a group of blues musicians to entertain guests.
The couple wanted a main-floor master suite and were impressed with the amenities of thisĀ homeās master bath. Liesmann says the high ceilings and travertine tile create an attractive space,Ā but the real bonus is the gas fireplace near the Whirlpool bath. āIt was great in the winter to wakeĀ up in the morning and just hit the switch,ā he says.
Liesmann admits they are ready for a smaller place but have no desire to leave Town & Country.Ā āWe absolutely love it here,ā he says.
