It’s easy to assume that an 80-year-old house might not have much to offer, but every room in this beautiful home debunks that notion, says agent Lizzy Dooley of Laura McCarthy Real Estate. Carefully planned additions and updates make its spaces just as welcoming and comfortable today as when it was first built.
What is most convenient about the home?
Lizzy Dooley | The first-floor master suite features his-and-hers bathrooms and walk-in closets, and the side-entry garage is accessible to the rest of the house. You can live entirely on the first floor if you want! Every bedroom has immediate access to a bathroom, which is unusual in Ladue. And the home is in the Clermont neighborhood east of Lindbergh, so it’s close to the highway.
How does it integrate modern features with traditional?
Homes in this neighborhood are typically older, but this one has upgrades that appeal to today’s buyers, like a five-car garage, gourmet kitchen and lots of entertainment space. There is a big party room with a bar above the garage, which offers plenty of room for game tables like pool and air hockey. It’s a really unique, fun area of the house.
What else makes the home great for entertaining?
The first floor is expansive, featuring two family rooms, a formal dining room and a handsome wine room. It has a nice, circular flow with access to the pool and patio from the family room or kitchen. When you’re entertaining, the party can move around easily, both indoors and out. There’s a wonderful sense of continuity to the house.
How would you describe the kitchen?
It’s extremely bright and inviting with a large center island and beautiful wood floors, and it opens up to the patio through two sets of French doors. You could say the kitchen doubles as a pool house because it’s just steps away. It’s so easy to walk back and forth if you are entertaining outdoors.
What other features stand out?
The yard is beautiful but not high maintenance, and there’s amazing curb appeal. I like the charming motor court that provides extra parking for guests. The overall feel of the home is warm and welcoming—it’s a very happy house. It can be formal if needed, but it’s also reminiscent of homes in The Hamptons because it makes you feel like you’re on vacation.
What word best describes the home?
Definitely ‘timeless.’ It was built in the 1930s but has been added on to and beautifully updated through the years. It’s a fabulous house—one of my favorites.
