The Saint Louis Fashion Fund welcomed aspiring designers to its inaugural Future Fashion Open House, a daylong mini workshop event for local high school students interested in clothing design and manufacturing. Nearly 80 students learned about illustration, draping, machine sewing, upcycling clothes and other topics taught by industry experts. The organization is located on Washington Avenue, the historic home of St. Louis’ former fashion district. For information on other educational events and camps, visit saintlouisfashionfund.org.

The district recently launched a high school student-led video newscast program, and there are plans to expand it to include middle-schoolers. SDUC News is produced monthly and posted on the district’s website and YouTube channel. Its goal is to encourage future journalists and inform students, teachers, staff, parents and the local community about district happenings. University City High School collects donated dress clothes and ties for students taking part in the program.
