Are you seeing any trends in rugs right now?
Antique rugs are always popular. Homeowners with older properties are looking for rugs from the 1920s that are Persian or Persian-inspired. Geometric styles lean more casual and modern, and we’re seeing a lot of current designers moving in that direction. Colors that are trending right now include all shades of blue from sky to navy, and gray also has been very popular.

What should people consider when looking for a new rug?
The best place to start is what size is needed for the area. Then, move onto style and color. At Asadorian Rug Company, we allow people to pick two or three rugs, and we bring them to their home. That way they can see the rugs in their own space with the rest of their decor. That’s really the only way to make sure something is going to look right.

How often should rugs receive maintenance?
It really depends on the amount of traffic the rug receives. If it’s a high traffic space, you’ll want to have it cleaned and checked around every two years. If it’s a place where less people are walking, then you can wait about four years. It’s important to note that in the Midwest we do see a lot of moth damage. If your rug is in a dark, inactive area, you may find that moths have started to eat it if it’s made from wool, which is the most likely case. To prevent this, make sure you get your rugs moth-proofed.

Are any styles or colors less in demand right now?
Florals are not as popular right now. People also aren’t looking for red rugs as much.
