Having grown up in the 1970S, I have a fond appreciation for the decade’s decor. However, I didn’t think it ever would make a comeback. Still, given the younger generation’s proclivity for repurposing furniture, it isn’t surprising that the ’70s are showing up in full force in shelter magazines and design blogs. Here are a few of my favorite retro chic concepts and items.
An authentic and elegant dining room design rings true to its roots. Yes, the avocado appliance trend is back! Will it stick? Just a little goes a long way, but this classic retro wallpaper makes this sitting room. Large geographics painted on walls in bold colors are starting to re-emerge. Glazed pottery is another throwback making its way back into designers’ hearts. Nothing says ’70s more to me than Marimekko anything. From the chairs to the hide to the lighting, this modern take on retro looks and feels warm and cozy. I love the sunny brightness of this kitchen. Painted furniture is also getting a ’70s vibe as seen in this sideboard. How many of you had this adorable elephant rattan bedside table? Jonathan Adler is a whiz at taking the best of the ’70s and making it fit today’s lifestyle.
