After 11 years in clothing merchandising with brands like Gap and American Eagle, Clayton H.S. grad (’94) Daniel Shapiro (pictured) is launching his own athletic-wear line Aug. 1, Fourlaps. It “combines functionality and form, all while being accessible,” he says. Although Shapiro now lives in NYC, the line has ties to local organizations, including STL-Style apparel company. Prices are $24.50 to $69.50 for the online-only (fourlaps.com) tees, shorts, hoodies and sweats.
Way to go! Hometowner Colleen Quigley (Nerinx Hall ‘11) is going to Rio after a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Quigley, a Florida State student, is the 2015 steeplechase national champ and a nine-time All-American. Also a onetime model, she is the daughter of Gaylerd and Ann Quigley of Kirkwood. Kudos to Opera Theatre St. Louis general director Timothy O’Leary, who has been named chairman of Opera America’s board of directors! The group, which O’Leary has been involved with since 2006, is the leading champion for the American opera scene. He succeeds former board chair Frayda Lindemann, VP of the Metropolitan Opera.
Wow! is the only reaction you can have to Chaminade grad Jayson Tatum (’16), recently named male Athlete of the Year at the 14th annual Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year awards in Los Angeles. Prior to this honor, Tatum had been named Gatorade’s National Boys Basketball Player of the Year. The award is based not only on athletics, but also on academics and character.
