Lisa Broersma’s wedding day holds many fun memories for her, including spending time with old high school friends and dancing the night away. But when asked her favorite moment, she says it was when she and her groom, Jack Hannum, were able to go off by themselves and “just take in the day and the moment.”
The couple’s love story began freshman year of college at Arizona State after hanging out at a Greek Bid Day social. “I drove him to the mall for our first date because he needed a purple tie for his fraternity,” Lisa recalls. “We ate brunch and shopped, and we’ve dated pretty much ever since!” Six years later, Jack planned to propose to Lisa after her sister’s wedding in Florida. “We were packing and somehow I figured out he had a ring,” she says. “I’m impatient and he can’t keep a secret, so he told me I should look for it.” As she was on the hunt, Jack brought in the ring and got down on one knee.
Since Lisa had just moved to St. Louis a few years earlier, she relied on Jack and his family for suggestions on venue and vendors. “Jack helped more than I thought he would,” Lisa says. “He went with me everywhere and helped pick the venue. I always knew I wanted something outside, and I loved the idea of getting married in a park.” She didn’t worry about the weather until the week before the wedding. “I started checking the forecast constantly, and it was supposed to rain the entire day. Luckily, it ended up being sunny and gorgeous!”
