A shared love of Jayhawks basketball was the perfect starting point for University of Kansas graduates Bridget Walsh and Matt Koenig. Both moved to Denver after graduating and were rooting on their college team at a local bar when conversation led to making plans for a date. After four and a half years, Matt made it official. “It was just a normal Friday night,” Bridget recalls. “We left a restaurant, and Matt started walking toward a violinist on a street corner. I was so confused as to what he was doing, and then he got down on one knee and proposed right there.”
Deciding where to get married was the first order of business, since Matt was born in Denver and Bridget is a native St. Louisan. “My whole family wanted me to get married in St. Louis, but I just couldn’t pass up Colorado because it’s such a gorgeous setting,” Bridget says. After many hours of online research, Bridget discovered the breathtaking Castle Cliff Estate in Sedalia, Colo., and knew it would be the ideal locale. The ceremony and cocktail hour were held out front, and dinner and dancing took place in the backyard’s three garden levels.
Bridget wanted a neutral palette with metallic accents to create a romantic vibe for their big day. She fondly recalls one of her favorite memories, when a bagpiper played at the end of the ceremony—a surprise Matt planned in honor of her dad, who passed away when she was a teenager. “We are an Irish family, and my dad was very proud of that,” Bridget notes. “That moment was so special. It was the one detail I didn’t know about.”
The couple resides in Denver, where Matt is a sales rep for Haynes Mechanical Systems and Bridget is a communications director for The Midland Group and a stylist/outfitter for Trumaker.
