LouFest may be a few months away, but festival season has officially begun. Coachella fashion took a sharp turn this year thanks to the ‘90s nostalgia revival. Here are some of the best trends from the desert that are sure to make their way to the Midwest. Pro tip: Leave the flower crowns at home this year.

double buns
It seemed as if every girl (and some guys) were channeling their inner Sporty Spice this year. Swooping up the hair in a half ponytail and dividing it in two buns is a super simple way to make a statement and keep your hair out of your face—especially important for St. Louis summers.

scrunchies

Leave it to Bella Hadid to bring back this ‘90s staple. Wearing nothing more than a short-sleeve crop top, high-waist jeans and a body chain, Bella rocked her white scrunchie at a Levi’s party and made a big statement with just a little fabric. The jury is still out on whether this trend will take off outside festival gates.

bold eyeshadow

Applying different eyeshadow hues on the crease, lid, lower lid and under the brow line is so 2017. Picking one bold eye color was the name of the game at Coachella, from Victoria’s Secret Angel Romee Strijd’s orange smokey eye to model Joan Smalls’ thick, electric blue eyeliner. The best part about this trend is that it’s easy to re-create.

rhinestone accents

I was reminded of Gwen Stefani circa 1995 with this festival trend. Accenting eyes, foreheads, cheeks and more with rhinestones is this year’s temporary metallic tattoo. Depending on how far you want to take it, you easily can add a tiny rhinestone to each corner of your eyelids or accent your entire brow line (and even in between) with stick-on stones.

khaleesi braids

Maybe I’m totally biased because Game of Thrones is arguably the greatest TV show of all time, but the Khaleesi inspired braids at Coachella made my heart skip a beat. While getting the Mother of Dragons ‘do is no easy feat, there are tons of YouTube tutorials that break down how to get the look step-by-step. Trust me, it’s worth it.
