St. Louis TV is full of faces—some new, some familiar. One to watch out for is Morgan Harris of KMOV. Harris arrived in St. Louis in 2024 and took on the role of reporter and weekend anchor. A lot has changed since then, as she rolled up her sleeves and got involved in various community events, including serving as an emcee at Nelly’s prestigious Black and White Ball.
How did it start for you?
I started in Jackson, Mississippi, at the NBC affiliate as a weekend anchor and reporter. I met the news director at KMOV, started researching St. Louis and ended up here. It’s been a great step not only for my career but also for me personally.
A lot has happened since you first arrived in St. Louis. How have you been able to maintain the balance?
I feel as though just working with the team here that I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback. People here are truly interested in the news and what’s going on around them. St. Louis is honestly like a journalist’s heaven. You have people who are tuned in and want to hear what we have to say as we go out and report in the community. KMOV puts a strong emphasis on reporting for its anchors as well, and the best way to learn a community is to actually get out in it.
What is the biggest adjustment you’ve had to make since moving from Mississippi?
St. Louis is actually much bigger in terms of traffic. Not only on the road, but also with all the sports teams and concerts that come here. It’s a bigger city than Jackson, and getting used to reporting in a bigger city has been a whirlwind.
What moments have stood out for you since you’ve had the chance to consistently anchor?
It’s been great. Leading a viewer from the beginning of a newscast all the way to the end is a totally different experience. People are welcoming us into their homes. I anchor the 10 p.m. news, and that is a very intimate experience. People are watching before they go to bed, and they want to make sure they know everything that’s happened and prepared for the next day. It’s not something that I take for granted. The main thing I want to do is be a steady voice for people—someone that they can trust and count on to bring them the latest information.
KMOV recently made the announcement that your role was going to increase quite a bit.
It has meant the world. I am pretty young to be in this role. I’m bringing big energy to the position, but I also know that I have a lot to learn. Every day, I’m taking in every moment, not wasting an opportunity and going as hard as I can to bring our viewers the best product.
You can only report the news, but is there too much focus on crime and not enough about positive things?
There are a lot of great things happening in St. Louis. One way we are making sure that we’re at the forefront is our new 6:30 p.m. show, First Alert Forward, which is all about how we’re pushing our region forward. To your point, it’s not necessarily focused on crime, although we do hit on that because we know it impacts St. Louis and other major cities. If people tune in at 6:30 p.m., they get a different perspective on the news.
When did you know TV was for Morgan Harris?
I originally wanted to be a lawyer, but I found it wasn’t for me in college. I was doing pageants at the time, and a judge asked me about broadcast journalism. I had not considered it, but I did some research because I needed to figure out what I was doing after graduation. I got an internship, and I knew this was something I wanted to do for my career. I get to use my speaking skills to get out into the community and meet people.
Do you have pets?
No. I live downtown and work nights. They’d be by themselves all night.
What is your favorite local place to eat?
I love Tucker’s in Soulard.
What’s your go-to dish to cook at him?
Something else I need to do: Learn how to cook. I may be from Mississippi, but it’s not a skill I currently have.
What is one thing about St. Louis that has grown on you?
The cold weather. I’m not used to snow, but I’m starting to enjoy that St. Louis has all four seasons.
Your favorite spot to grab a drink?
Sasha’s—either location.
What surprised your about St. Louis—other than how things are pronounced?
The pronunciations are actually a big thing. They are not what they look like, and people here want them to be pronounced correctly.
What are you scratching off your St. Louis bucket list in 2026?
Take a tour with the Missouri History museum. Every crevice of this city is full of history, so I want to get on one of those tours.
