bravo for the bakery!
A new bakery has opened in Kirkwood, at 11243 Manchester Road. And not just any bakery, but one led by award-winning pastry chef Nathaniel Reid and his wife Lee Lee Reid. Nathaniel, who has worked at The Ritz here and in Las Vegas, received the U.S. Pastry Chef of the Year award at the 2010 ParisGourmet Competition. Nathaniel Reid Bakery serves sweet and savory breakfast pastries, sandwiches, tarts and cakes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

food court heaven
Plans are underway for an exciting food court development in Midtown in the 3700 block of Forest Park Avenue. City Foundry Food Hall & Market will be located in the Federal-Mogul building, circa 1930, and developed by The Lawrence Group. Set near SLU, the Barnes Hospital Complex and Grand Center, it will be a food and retail stop, with culinary services managed by longtime restaurateur Brad Beracha (Miso, Araka, BaiKu Sushi). Up to two dozen food stalls are planned, along with 40 retail spaces, a residential tower and several full-service restaurants. Projected completion is fall 2018.

qb-ice-creamgooey butter is back
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in the CWE is the first of the eight Jeni’s locations nationwide to get this flavor back on its roster. Owner Jeni Britton Bauer created it as a nod to her childhood in Peoria, Illiniois, incorporating cream cheese ice cream, crumbles of vanilla cake and swirls of honey-butter caramel sauce. (There goes the diet.)

retro redo & menu
The new Gamlin restaurant to be located in The Residences at Forest Park Hotel, 1764 Public House, is set to open after Jan. 1, 2017. At a recent groundbreaking, the Gamlin brothers explained the culinary concept as a way to honor the history of St. Louis using fresh, local flavors in modern twists on regional favorites. The new spot will offer room service to the building’s residents, as well as event catering. It will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night dining, all including daily baked goods.

qb-winewinery win-win
Cedar Lake Cellars in Wright City, a winery and event venue, hired husband-wife team Aaron Lyons and Ashley Lyons as executive chef and chef de cuisine, respectively. Both have worked for VIP chef Hubert Keller and plan to focus on upscale American cuisine with a nod to the region’s French heritage.
