Room of Your Own: Bookcase Style
I love a well-styled bookcase. It can elevate and pull together a room like nothing else. It’s not as tricky as you might think, if you stick to a few simple rules and fill the space with books, objects and artwork you love.
tip 1
Pick a color palette and stick to it so the look feels curated.
tip 2
The books: hardback only, and remove the sleeves, or cover them in great-looking paper.
tip 3
Add art. Use smaller pieces that fit within the shelves, or go bold and hang a larger piece or decorative mirror against the front of the bookcase.
tip 4
Mix it up. Add in objects, sculptures and something natural, like a plant or a piece of coral.
tip 5
Rearrange until it feels just right. Don’t be afraid of negative space, and if you don’t love it, don’t use it!
