St. Louis has a wonderful, talented music community, and the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis soon will recognize David and Miran Halen, a couple that has definitely hit a high note. Salut D’Amour celebrates David Halen’s 20th year as concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony, the 10th anniversary of his solo album, Salut D’Amour, and the many contributions he and his soparanist wife Miran have made to the community. The event takes place March 10 at the Sheldon Concert Hall. Co-chairs are Tom and Carol Voss; honorary chairs are Wilfred and Ann Lee Konneker.
The evening’s highlights will include a special presentation of chamber music featuring David Halen, violin, Miran Halen, soprano, and musicians of the Chamber Music Society. For those who chose the VIP package, a private dinner will be held after the concert. Tickets also will be available for the performance only.
Proceeds from the event and concert support educational and performance activities that encourage students and adults to appreciate music and nurture exceptional emerging chamber music performers and ensembles.
What to wear? Since it’s on a Tuesday night, either business or cocktail attire is appropriate. The theme of the evening is a salute to love, so consider wearing something romantic in the form of lace, silk, florals and colors of the heart – red, pink and burgundy. Men easily can go from the office in a business suit attire with accessories in the same color accents, plus the traditional black or even silver.

Q: Gingham — do you have any do’s or don’ts? This pattern can look very country, so what is the best way to incorporate it?
A: Approach gingham in a modern way. Mix a piece with a solid color, minimal accessories and a current shoe style. Try balancing your gingham piece with a menswear-inspired pattern. If you’re daring and want to wear gingham from head to toe, keep the same pattern. Too many colors in different patterns can clash. Do not add any cutesy accessories like lace or ruffles–you don’t want to conjure up Ellie May Clampett or Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island!
