This rom-com is totally predictable, but also funny and surprisingly entertaining. Leslie Mann, as much-maligned wife Kate, is thoroughly annoying at first, since her character is so unrealistically flighty and clueless. But she grows on you as she turns to Carly, ‘the mistress’ (Cameron Diaz), for advice and companionship. An attorney, Carly is an unwitting adulteress conned by serial philanderer Mark King (Nikolaj Coster-Walda). And she’s Kate’s polar opposite: strong, cunning and sexy. By sheer force of will (and peskiness), Kate succeeds in befriending Carly, and eventually the two of them resolve to get even with Mark. But not until they track him to the Bahamas, where he’s vacationing with his latest hottie, a 20-something Amber (model Kate Upton). Situations arise—many of them stupid, some of them funny, a few hilarious. Kate’s klutzy pup, a Great Dane, adds to the humor, as does Nicki Minaj as Carly’s secretary and Don Johnson (Miami Vice heartthrob) as Carly’s New Age-y dad. Diaz, as usual, is totally appealing with her crystal blue eyes, great facial expressions and humorous delivery.
