Lizzy Dooley has been a people person from the get-go. “I grew up with five brothers and sisters, and I love being from a big family,” says the Clayton native. After college, she taught second and third grade in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. “I enjoyed it, but I knew real estate was the right career for me as soon as I passed the test. I thrive on meeting new people and discovering properties.” She joined Laura McCarthy in 2007, and partnered with Michelle Moshiri two years ago. Dooley and her husband, Tom, live in Ladue with daughter Kaitlyn, 7, and son Will, 6.
GOOD SPORT Growing up, I could always be found on the hockey or soccer field, or shooting baskets. I still coach my kids’ teams when my schedule allows. BATTLE SCARS I got my license right as the bubble burst, so I learned how to run with the market then it was really tough. FIRST SALE It was a darling little home in Brentwood. We sold it after the market fell in 2007—no easy task. My clients were so happy, and it was such a rush to close my first deal. I still drive by it and smile! FAVORITE THING People always apologize for the way their place looks, but believe me, I’ve seen it all. I enjoy working with my clients to get the place ready to sell. ART OF THE DEAL I love negotiating! I’m not afraid to get creative, and I never let a deal die. NOT A HOBBY Real estate is a full-time job. Michelle and I work seven days a week, often late into the evening. We help our clients determine the right price, get the house ready to show, schedule the opening so it hits the market at the right time, and aggressively advertise in multiple venues. FAMILY GUY I’m extremely lucky to have a supportive husband who’s an incredible dad. He runs the show when I work weekends. SECRET SAUCE Michelle and I really listen to our clients, and we’re always tapping into our network, which includes off-market properties, to find the right place or the right buyer. NO SALE ? The main reason a house doesn’t sell is price, plain and simple. Hiring an experienced agent who knows the area and knows how to price pays off. If the price is wrong, the home will sit. ALL THUMBS I wish I could sew, but I can’t even sew on a button. PHILOSOPHY This is a great business, but it’s tough. It keeps you young and humble!
